6 Steps To Kill PROCRASTINATION in 2024.
If you want to be sucessfull then start planning you cannot be successful accidently. And remember - दुर्घटना से देर भली सावधानी से मौत टली.
For the last 2 months, I am not as productive as I used to be but the good news is I know how I can overcome it as I have done it earlier. Okay, so to make it more clear I will give you the context first. Before 2 years I had joined a regular college to complete my B. Ed (Bachelors in Education) as I was very sure that "अपने को अब टीचर ही बनना है” so I used to go college 5 days a week. So my days, weeks and even months were planned accordingly now as I have completed my B. Ed and not joined the school yet. I have a lot of time. I have noticed that 40% of the time am working on different projects of EasyLearning - An Edtech platform that started back in 2019 but 60% of the time am just scrolling on Instagram, then on Facebook followed by Youtube and so on. The point is am just wasting my time without even planning it. And this makes me feel guilty at the end of the day. Now if you are following my newsletter every week then you must have noticed that I a trying to be consistent for the last 3 weeks including this week. I have started working on my Youtube channel, on my Instagram handle, on this newsletter, I am also trying to optimize my website and app.
You may think wow shubham tu too sahi jaa raha hai but that’s not the reality. My average productivity score is less than 50% and I am not happy with this. So the point is I want to achieve an average of 85%. And I know this is very much possible. Also, I know the right steps which work for me. These are the same steps that have made me achieve an average of 50% score. If you know someone who is struggling with the same issue then I would love it if you share this newsletter with them. It will also help you because, at some or other point, you face this same issue in your life. But before we start let’s under how to calculate your productivity score.
Productivity score calculation daily is very important. It’s a game of awareness. I call it I vs Myself
Okay, so it is quite simple.
Make a to-do- list.
Cut down all the things you have done successfully.
Now calculate with this formula
No. of completed tasks / Total no. of tasks X 100
Okay, now that you are aware of this it’s time to implement other steps in an organised manner to maximise this score.
Tips:
Start planning your day on paper. You can use Calendar and many more fancy apps but they won’t last longer. I think the best way is to use a paper. This will be effective in the long term and easy to do.
Make a list of all the small and big things you are going to do. Yeah, count everything try to visualise your day in advance. Write down each and everything.
Now use the Eisenhower Matrix - Basically, you need to divide your work into 4 categories
Put your work in either of these categories and just complete it.
You must select three important and urgent tasks and three important and not urgent tasks every day and try to do them.
Make a distraction list of your own, try to be aware and with time prepare a distraction list of yours and write down steps in detail as to why you get distracted with such things what’s the trigger, and how to overcome it. I call this “दुर्घटना से देर भली सावधानी से मौत टली” yeah it may sound funny to you but this is planning.
Take action now. And try to increase the productivity score.
Learnings
I have learnt about the term HABITUATION it’s an in-built neurological device that helps us to focus on what matters, and tune out of things that our brain doesn’t need to focus on.
Your brain has this unique capacity that can be used very smartly. Once you decide what is most important to you and start ignoring what is not important your focus will improve.
It is very well explained in this book with this example - If you have a cat or dog, you may have noticed how easily they seem to fall asleep while you’re watching Netflix, talking or blasting music - this is due to the same process of habituation.
So If you understand this then use this in your plan to get rid of distractions. I would love to read how you are going to implement it in the comments. ⬇️
